Jason Wyse from Silkworth Charity Group talked about addiction in the workplace. He highlighted:
- Policies around drugs and alcohol can become a tick box exercise, but knowing what’s in it is very important.
- Drug and alcohol policy is intrinsic with wellbeing it’s not always visible but it’s happening.
- We can’t ignore these issues we need policies to protect companies.
- It’s not a tick box exercise its people’s lives.
Sometimes cries for help are quiet signs and not totally apparent so we need to make employees aware of the policies if they don’t know them and educate managers on drug and alcohol signs, symptoms and policies.
Anyone thinking about developing policy could and should contact them as they are here to help. I couldn’t help shuddering when Jason said,
” Having drug and alcohol policies can avoid people crossing a line that is difficult to come back from.”
This was live-blogged during a session at the CIPD Jersey #Think Conference – I’ve tried to capture a faithful summary of the highlights for me but my own bias, views – and the odd typo – might well creep in.
